Readlark is an offline EPUB reader with an on-device neural narrator. It is built to keep your reading private. Your books, library, bookmarks, highlights, reading progress and generated audio never leave your device. There is no account and no sign-in.

The short version

What stays on your device

Everything you create or import: EPUB files, extracted text, cover images, chapters and sentences, bookmarks and highlights, reading and listening progress, per-book voice choices, settings, and the audio narration Readlark generates. This data is stored in the app's private storage on your device and is never transmitted to us or anyone else. Deleting a book, clearing narration, or uninstalling the app removes it.

What leaves your device — and only this

1. Voice model download

To read aloud, Readlark downloads a neural text-to-speech model once (a few hundred megabytes) from a public model host. This is a normal file download. Your books and reading are not part of that request. You can restrict it to Wi-Fi in settings.

2. Crash reports (Sentry)

To find and fix bugs, Readlark uses Sentry to send a report if the app crashes or hits a serious error. A report may include: the error and stack trace, the app version, your device model and OS version, and a device/installation identifier used to group reports. It does not include your books, their text, or your reading content. Crash data is transmitted encrypted and used solely to improve the app; it is never sold or used for advertising. See Sentry's privacy policy.

Permissions

Readlark requests only what these features need:

Readlark does not request the microphone, camera, location, contacts, the ability to draw over other apps, or broad access to your files and photos.

Data sharing

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for advertising. The only processor involved is Sentry, which handles crash diagnostics on our behalf as described above.

Data retention

On-device data persists until you delete it or uninstall the app. Crash reports are retained by Sentry under its standard retention windows and then deleted.

Children

Readlark is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new date above.
